China Overseas Land Dalian: A Fusion of Oriental Aesthetics and Modern Design

Golden A' Design Award Winner, Houfu Chen, Brings Matrix Composition to Interior Spaces

The project stands out for its unique use of curves and geometric art elements. The sensibility and freedom of the curve are gradually used in the space by the designers. With the unique shape, people can see a bright future. The composition of the matrix shape creates more possibilities for the space. Abandoning the partition type layout, the design outlines a high and low fluctuation spatial rhythm with a modern sense line, smooth, free is the main language of the space, the wandering line presents the modern spatial esthetics in the connection between the opening and closing.

The project is realized using a variety of materials including marble, wood veneer, hardened fabric, brushed material, art glass, and wallpaper. The design spans an area of 1400 sqm and serves as a Sales Center. The project was completed between December 2018 and June 2020 in Dalian, Liaoning Province, China.

The design draws inspiration from multiple cultural elements like Chinese landscape painting and mortice and tenon joint, rendering the space full of historic and cultural significance. An almost entirely symmetrical layout creates a sense of ritual and makes people be in awe of Oriental cultures. The abstract and elegant environment interprets the perfect fusion of soft decoration and artwork in the space.

One of the major challenges faced during the design process was the combination of the matrix and Chinese artistic conception in the interior space. The neat wooden waves on the top are intertwined, creating a rhythmic visual beauty in the clouds and running water. The vitality and attractiveness of the space is reflected here. Designers use modern design techniques to create dynamic and rich spatial art concepts, thereby increasing the interaction between people and space.

The project has been recognized with the prestigious Golden A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award in 2021. The award is granted to marvelous, outstanding, and trendsetting creations that reflect the designer's prodigy and wisdom. They are venerated products and bright ideas that advance art, science, design, and technology, embodying extraordinary excellence and significantly impacting the world with their desirable characteristics.
